When Bachelorette alum Becca Kufrin announced she was engaged on Instagram to her boyfriend, Thomas Jacobs, fans not only congratulated the couple — but they applauded Becca for her boss move.

The reality star explained in her caption that she had asked for Thomas’ hand in marriage and “HE SAID YES.”

If you feel as if you’ve found your lifetime partner and best friend, who says you have to wait for him to get down on one knee? There’s nothing wrong with flipping the script in the male-dominated tradition, and taking charge.

Not so sure? Here’s why we believe women should propose.

You’re on the same page.

So you’ve talked about getting married, want to tie the knot and have even verbally planned out your wedding day — from the venue to the food and who will be your emcee. But for some reason, he just hasn’t popped the question.

If there’s no doubt that you’re both on the same page about getting married, but your fiance is moving at a snail’s pace — then take matters into your hands! Especially if you’ve gone window shopping for your rings.

A word of advice: be open and ask your fiance why he hasn’t popped the question. If you sense there’s a sliver of doubt about getting married on his part, we don’t suggest proposing until you’re certain you’re on the same page. This goes for all couples. Regardless of who proposes, both should be ready to take the plunge.

HVM Media & Marketing Founder Hayden Merryn got down on one knee, and proposed to her boyfriend. Merryn described herself as “anything but traditional” and that she “consistently preach(es) the importance of breaking societal norms more especially when it comes to gender roles.”

You’re more financially ready to buy the ring.

Many couples have talked about getting married, yet may not be in a place to buy a ring or fund a wedding.

However, if you find yourself a little more financially stable than your significant other — consider taking the lead.

If your fiance has expressed wanting to buy you a ring, but circumstances won’t allow him yet — why not buy him a ring and ask for his hand in marriage? You can buy wedding bands for the both of you now — like Becca did when she proposed to Thomas — and upgrade later when you’re both ready.

To break stereotypes.

When HVM Media & Marketing Founder Haydene Merryn proposed to her boyfriend, she explained on Instagram that she preaches “the importance of breaking societal norms and more especially when it comes to gender roles.”

According to a recent Zola survey, 77% of heterosexual women never even thought to propose, even though 98% view themselves as completely equal to their partner.

Now read this: Glamour surveyed 500 men, and found that 70 percent (yes, 70 percent!) would be happy if their girlfriend proposed.

Maybe it’s because society pressures men not only to propose, but to do it right. Maybe they’re nervous you’ll say “no”?

If you feel confident in your love, relationship and yourself — go for it and put a ring on it!

You’re ready to start a family.

If you’re ready to grow your family, but you want to get married first — you may feel as if time is running out to walk down the aisle.

Remember to communicate with your partner about why it’s important to get married sooner than later. If you’re both in agreement on your future family plans, but he hasn’t yet proposed — then you may need to step up to the plate to make it happen. Unfortunately, biological clocks have a time limit for women.

So how should you propose to your boyfriend?

The choice is up to you! You can go all out, propose with just a pair of wedding bands or no rings at all.

Good luck, and here’s to today’s modern woman taking charge and shattering stereotypes!
