Getting married this year? Here are just a few trends that will hit the aisle in 2023

In 2022, we saw couples saying “yes” to boho-chic and neutral-colored wedding decor. But as the saying goes, out with the old and in with the new.

This year, we’re saying goodbye to muted shades and soft looks. Instead, couples are embracing the maximalist approach to their ceremonies and receptions.

We’ve put together a list of several trends you’ll see this year that are sure to give your wedding a pop you and your guests will love.

Less is no longer more.

Remember when dried pampas grass became all the rage for homes and weddings? Suddenly it seemed everyone’s inspiration was the romantic bohemian look. We still love a beautiful minimalist wedding. But this year, we’re seeing couples play with bold colors, textures and patterns as they embrace the total opposite of minimalist and bring the maximalist trend to their weddings. Think bright bouquets, unconventional wedding attire colors (yes, bride and grooms — that means you too!) and patterned table decor. For this trend, less is definitely not more.

Dramatic ceilings.

This year, we’ll see more couples focus on what’s above their guests’ heads when they look up. Forget the twinkle lights that have adorned wedding tents for decades. We’re talking about crawling vines, flower installations and massive chandeliers.

The results are so dramatic that you could even skip the decorations on the reception tables, if you’re looking to save a bit of cash.

Runway receptions.

If you’ve decided on a seating chart, the task can be daunting. Where should you put your Aunt Mary? Would your dad be upset if he sat at the same table as your stepdad? In 2023, we’re seeing a new seating trend that could be just the solution.

Set up two long rows of tables with guests seated only on the outside, facing the middle. With this arrangement, you’ve only got to worry about who’s seated on the right and left of someone — instead of seating entire tables of guests.

This runway-type style is also becoming popular for ceremonies. It means all eyes are on the couple as they walk between the two rows of seats, and there are no obstructed views.

Environmentally friendly.

There’s no doubt that people and companies have become more environmentally conscious. Sustainability has also made it into weddings. For instance, we’re seeing a rise in popularity for biodegradable confetti and digital invitations. But some couples are taking it one step further by hiring caterers who stick to organic, vegan and zero waste meals.

Speaking of the environment, sustainable brides are also reusing vintage wedding dresses. Wearing a dress from eighties or beyond? The good news: those styles are making a comeback.
